This question came to mind during the 2026 PE Insights in Frankfurt, particularly during the panel discussion: "Generating Alpha: Value Drivers in Private Equity."

While many focus on technology, data, and operational excellence, one point became exceptionally clear during the session: the biggest lever remains talent.

Some of the key takeaways that stood out to me are that successful investments always begin with the right people, and talent mapping should start just as early as target mapping. Furthermore, technology and operating teams are increasingly merging, and AI along with new coding capabilities will continue to fundamentally reshape technology investments.

As a headhunter in the private capital industry, I see this development firsthand every day: funds that focus on strategic talent acquisition early on are often the ones creating more sustainable value.

Because in the end, one truth remains: Private equity is a people business.
