How is the hiring market in European Private Capital right now?

Short answer: It depends entirely on where you sit.

I get asked this in almost every meeting, by both clients and candidates:

“𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄?”

My answer: It depends entirely on where you sit. Here’s what we are seeing from our daily work:

1️⃣ 𝗚𝗣𝘀 (𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗘): 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 & 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲
DPI matters. Fundraising is slower. Headcount is controlled.
Hiring is happening but only for true edge: sector depth, operational excellence, origination strength.

2️⃣ 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲
Clear shift. Less focus on expansion hires. More focus on EBITDA impact.
CFOs, restructuring, transformation leaders, roles tied directly to margin and cash.

3️⃣ 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 & 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰
Many of our clients are institutionalising and scaling direct investing.
Selective but actively building without fundraising pressure.

4️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴
Liquidity solutions are in demand. GP-led activity remains strong.
Teams are expanding and the experienced talent market is tight.

The market is not slow. It is fragmented.
Specialists are winning.
Clear value creators are in demand.
